FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything the runDisney community asks about — sweep pace, registration, training, race day, and more.

Sweep Pace

What is the sweep pace?

All runDisney races enforce a 16-minute-per-mile minimum pace. Participants who fall behind will be swept by vehicles and transported to the finish line. The sweep vehicles follow a set schedule based on the race start time.

How does the sweep actually work?

Balloon Ladies (official 16 min/mile pacers) start at the back of the last corral and complete the course at the sweep pace. If you fall behind them, you will be at risk of being swept. Sweep vehicles follow shortly behind.

What happens if I get swept?

You'll be transported to the finish line area. You still receive your finisher medal in most cases, but the experience is different. If swept, you officially do not finish — which matters for challenge events like Dopey or Goofy.

Registration

When do runDisney races sell out?

Popular events like the Princess Half Marathon can sell out within minutes of opening to general registration. Marathon Weekend and Dopey Challenge sell out within hours. Set a calendar alert and have your payment info ready.

What are the corral seeding requirements?

runDisney assigns corrals based on recent race finish times. Submit a proof of time (race result from a certified event within the last 2 years) to be placed in a faster corral. Without proof, you'll be placed in one of the last corrals.

Can I defer my registration?

runDisney does not offer official deferrals. However, they do have a transfer policy that allows you to transfer your registration to another runner for a fee.

Training

Do I need to train specifically for runDisney?

Yes — and not just for fitness. runDisney races involve photo stops, character greetings, and park terrain that slows you down. Train with these stops in mind. Also consider that race morning starts very early (often 5:00–5:30 AM).

How much time will character stops add?

Character lines can add 5–20 minutes per stop depending on popularity. The lines are officially part of the race course and the sweep clock keeps moving. Plan your pace to have buffer time.

Race Day

What time do I need to arrive at the start area?

Plan to arrive at least 60–90 minutes before your corral start time. Many runners arrive 2 hours early. Buses from Disney resorts start running very early.

What should I wear?

Florida weather in January can be 40–70°F at 5 AM start. Dress in layers. Many runners wear Disney costumes — follow the guidelines (no full-face masks, no capes over 2 feet). Consider a throwaway jacket for the start.

Can I use my phone for GPS tracking?

Yes, but cell service is unreliable during race morning due to volume. Download any tracking apps beforehand. Keep your phone charged — GPS drains battery quickly. Consider a portable charger.

Expo

What happens at the race expo?

The Health & Fitness Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports is where you pick up your bib, t-shirt, and race items. It's also a massive merchandise event. Arrive early — popular items sell out. Bib pickup is required in person.

Can someone else pick up my bib?

No — runDisney requires in-person bib pickup. You must show your photo ID and registration confirmation.

Gear

What gear do experienced runDisney runners recommend?

Must-haves: Body Glide (chafing), a running belt for your phone, hydration. Nice-to-have: waist pack for snacks, gloves for early morning cold, a disposable throwaway layer for the start.
