COMPROVISE(d) II - wander waver water and wind (version 2) (buy)

COMPROVISE(d) II - wander waver water and wind (version 2)
This album presents combinations of compositions and improvisations, and different mixes of the two.
It contains:
+very written parts, with incidental improvisations in the interpretation;
+freely improvised sections by cats wandering on the piano keyboard;
+composed sections made from improvisations, cut and edited;
+superposition of freely improvised lines... but getting less free each times a line is added, as it has to match the lines already recorded...
One track has been played after having watched Kitano's movie Dolls.

COMPROVISE(d) II - outtakes (sold out)

COMPROVISE(d) II - outtakes
This 16:32 disc (two tracks) is linked to COMPROVISE(d) II - wander waver water and wind, but has different material.
The first track is an arrangement (by Julien Omeyer) of Johann Sebastian Bach's Allemande from the first suite for cello BWV 1007. The score has been cut into 25 sections, randomly replaced - except for the beginning and the end of each part of the original composition. It has been played and recorded with realtime loops, making the sections being played over themselves until the end of each part has been heard twice.
The second track is a demo recorded for COMPROVISE(d) II, and wasn't included in the album because of some minor sound problems.

COMPROVISE(d) I

COMPROVISE(d) I
It was supposed to be released before COMPROVISE(d) II. It is almost finished, but still needs some work.
This album contains elaborated structures often built from improvisations.
It features several guests (MooL, Kondo Toshinori, Neko, Aurèle Duda, Simon Poncet, and probably Nils Petter Molvaer).

withered, gleaming - second step

withered, gleaming - second step
[withered gleaming - first step is available for free download in the listen section of this website]
In this withered, gleaming, second step CD (recorded live in studio), Julien plays four tracks (from 5:58 to 29:32) on cello, with distorsion and real time loops, and sometimes chants with a distant voice. The common comparation between the sound of cello and the human voice is fully verified here, and it is sometimes hard to distinguish if what we hear is Julien's voice or the cello. The looping process will make the listener experience the sound of a solo cello as well as superpositions of dozens of cellos and many voices, creating very dense harmonies. While this process has been used by Haino Keiji in most of his recent recordings, the result here is not unlike Ligeti's works.

julien & kermheat - japan kollage

japan kollage
by Julien (fretless bass, electric guitar, pipa) and Kermheat (electric guitar), and several guests planned (Gérard Omeyer on bass clarinet, Sugiura Hiroko on voice, Simon Poncet on drums). Alike Liu Sola's China Collage, this japan kollage project is made from many traditional and modern Japanese music motifs –but transformed by all that I have heard.
The tracks are made from very small excerpts of traditional Japanese songs, in an electro-ambient style.

withered, gleaming - first step

withered, gleaming - first step
[withered gleaming - first step is available for free download in the listen section of this website]
These are the first recordings of the withered, gleaming serie. Improvisations with feedback and realtime loops. Music recorded live in studio on may 3rd 2006 (track 2) and may 6th 2006 (tracks 1 & 3), about a month after having seen Haino Keiji live for the first time. The loop process is very influenced by this experience. Funny coincidence, the first one was recorded on Haino's birthday.
Track 1: cello
Track 2: fretless bass, voice - distant
Track 3: cello

COMPROVISE(d) I - alternate versions

COMPROVISE(d) I - alternate versions
Here are a few tracks that have different mixes or different lines from the final versions. The first and the last tracks won't even be on the album, or will be much shorter. Tracks 4 and 5 are two different arrangements on the same drum & bass recording by MooL (track 4 is very close to the final version, it is what Kondo Toshinori worked on -his lines are not heard here- and track 5 is a very guitar-oriented version, influenced by Buckethead's playing).
